Field to Family’s annual Local Foods Festival supports local farmers, culinary excellence, school gardens and more!
The 2014 Field to Family Local Foods Festival was a great success! Special thanks to all those who attended our events & supported local food! 2014 Culinary Walk
Seven downtown restaurants offered walkers delicious locally sourced food on the 2014 Culinary Walk, held on a beautiful evening in September, at this annual fundraiser for Field to Family.
Motley Cow Café http://www.motleycowcafe.com/ offered walkers twice baked potato with Frisian Farm aged gouda; Spicy tomato sauce; Braised Pavelka’s Point pork hock; Shaved kale.
Devotay: http://www.devotay.net/ featured heirloom tomato panna cotta, fresh cucumber; Lamb and chorizo slider on brioche, queso tetilla, roasted italian peppers, caramelized onions; Creamy soft polenta, sauteed vegetables, herbed créme fraîche.
One Twenty Six Restaurant: http://onetwentysix.net/ served Nicoise Salad Canape featuring James Nisly’s Sprouts, Farmer’s Henhouse Eggs, and Friendly Farm Heirloom Tomatoes; Friendly Farm Kabocha Squash Ice Cream; Friendly Farm Winter Squash and Mascarpone in Phyllo.
Share Wine Lounge & Small Plate Bistro http://www.sharewinelounge.com/ offered walkers pickled radish and Kale salad with prairie breeze cheddar- Muddy Miss/ Milton creamery; Pork shank tacos with sweet corn and charred heirloom peppers- Muddy Miss/ Pavelka meats; Beer battered apple beignets with elderberry glaze Millstream brewing/ Windshadow farms.

2014 Kids Day at Iowa City Farmers Market
Farm to School School Garden Booth at the Iowa City Farmer’s Market on Kid’s Day, Saturday, September 20: Over ten school kids actively participated in booth sales, as well as two teachers and three parents. Produce came from Longfellow, Hills, Hoover, Shimek, Kirkwood, West High and Northwest Junior High. Special thanks to Scott Koepke from New Pi Soilmates & Mike Loots from NWJR for providing support for the kids & their booth! Funds raised went towards Field to Family’s Farm to School program.
2014 Share the Harvest Dinner
Diners came together on September 21 for Field to Family’s Share the Harvest Dinner. Entrées from four local chefs were served, including William Hawkins from Share Restaurant, Katy Meyer from Trumpet Blossom Café, Thorin Peugh from Wind Shadow Farm & Barry Greenburg, Executive Chef, University of Iowa.
Menu items were sourced from the following farms: Adelyn’s Garden, Friendly Farm, Echollective Farm, Grimm Family Farm, Muddy Miss Farm, Organic Greens, Palvelka’s Point Meats and Wind Shadow Farm.
Diners were also treated to locally sourced cocktails & desserts.
Proceeds support Field to Family’s Local Food Finder and Farm to School program.
